E.CONOMIC FORECAST expect exhilarating growth rates for the world’s major economies this year. GDP America is expected to grow nearly 6% in 2021, the fastest pace since 1984. Growth is expected to be fastest in the second and third quarters of the year as vaccinations spur activity and fiscal stimuli take effect. In contrast, the recovery in the euro area and the UK is likely to be more modest this year. This reflects a delayed recovery: with economies still stalled, production is expected to contract in the first quarter. ■
